A number of high-profile actresses have scored new roles in four separate film projects today – all hailing from celebrated auteurs and at least two of them sounding downright quirky.

First up, Oscar winner Mikey Madison will join Kirsten Dunst in the mermaid thriller “Reptilia” from director Alejandro Landes Echavarría (“Monos”). Shooting begins this Fall.

Landes Echavarría and Duke Merriman penned the script about a dental hygienist seduced by a mysterious mermaid into the dark and wet underworld of Florida’s exotic animal trade.

Next, Scarlett Johansson is set to join Miles Teller and Adam Driver in “The Lost City of Z” and “Ad Astra” director James Gray’s new film “Paper Tiger”. Johansson and Teller replace Anne Hathaway and Jeremy Strong who exited over scheduling conflicts.

The story follows two brothers who pursue the American Dream – only to become entangled in a scheme that turns out to be too good to be true and involves the Russian mafia. Filming begins next month in New Jeresey.

Finally, Gillian Anderson will join “Hacks” alum Hannah Einbinder in “I Saw the TV Glow” director Jane Schoenburn’s new film “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma” which is set at Plan B and MUBI.

The Summer sleepaway camp-set project is described as “an insane yet cozy midnight odyssey that beckons to unsuspecting viewers from the horror section at the local video store.”

Finally, Emmy nominees Carrie Coon and Lily James have landed lead roles in Bleecker Street’s cult thriller movie “Harmonia” from Oscar-winning filmmaker Guy Nattiv (“Golda”).

The story is based on Nattiv’s grandmother’s experience in the 1980s with an insidious all-female cult where psychological manipulation is everywhere. Bella Ramsey and Odessa Young and production is expected to begin this summer.
