The transport ministry has announced that the KPP01 modules for motorcycle and car licences will be combined starting on August 1 this year, Bernama reports. This finally integrates the driver education curriculum course, which is the first step towards obtaining a motorcycle class or motorcar driving licence (LMM) in the country.
Even though the policy of one theory class had begun since 2023, the road transport department (JPJ) had until now continued to use different modules for motorcycles and cars, transport minister Anthony Loke said. “The KPP01 module for motorcycles and cars were previously separate, and have now been updated into a single learning module to provide additional emphasis on safe driving,” he said.
This means that any individual who presently has either a motorcycle class or motorcar driving licence (LMM) intending to obtain a LMM in the class different to their existing licence will no longer need to do the KPP01 again when testing, as both modules are now integrated. This will save both time and money for applicants.
Candidates will still be required to undergo training related to KPP02 (practical, on circuit) and KPP03 (practical, on road) tests at driving institutions for their respective vehicle classes (motorcycle and motorcar).
Separately, Loke also announced that JPJ will introduce a new official portal in line with its modernisation and innovation efforts, and this will utilise the latest technology and incorporate a minimalist and neat design. “The JPJ will also introduce an additional channel for vehicle registration number bids — the JPJeBid Mobile — that will use the latest technology and will be seamless and user-friendly,” he said.
