Jude Bellingham learns fate as Antonio Rudiger gets huge ban for throwing ice at referee
Bellingham was one of three players sent off.
Antonio Rudiger has been handed a six-match suspension for appearing to throw ice at the referee during the Clasico defeat to Barcelona.
Jude Bellingham meanwhile has seen his red card revoked despite being physically restrained by his teammates during the chaos.
Barcelona sealed a dramatic 3-2 win over their arch-rivals in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday night. The Real bench erupted in fury as referee Ricardo De Burgos gave a foul against Kylian Mbappe shortly before the final whistle.
Rudiger and Lucas Vazquez, already substituted, were shown straight red cards for their reaction with the Germany international appearing to throw ice at the match official from the touchline.
The incident was noted in the referee’s match report, explaining Rudiger was dismissed for ‘throwing an object from the technical area, which missed me’.
Rudiger is now set to serve a six-match suspension with a report from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirming his ban for ‘minor violence against referees’.
Vasquez has been handed a two-game with Bellingham, also sent off during the chaos, seeing his red card rescinded.
The referee’s report noted Bellingham ‘approached our position in an aggressive attitude, having to be restrained by his team-mates.’.
The RFEF claim however Real had provided video evidence which cleared their player.
Earlier in the match, the England international also appeared to blast the refereeing team by accusing them of favouring the Catalan giants.
As the players headed down the tunnel for the half-time break, Bellingham was caught by television cameras tearing into De Burgos Bengoetxea and his team.
‘Make him understand, everything is going their [Barcelona’s] way, everything 50-50 goes their way,’ Bellingham was heard telling the referee while he was being led away by Madrid captain Lucas Vazquez.
Rudiger meanwhile issued an apology earlier this week for his conduct.
‘There’s definitely no excuse for my behaviour last night. I’m very sorry for that. We played a very good game from the second half on.
‘After 11 minutes I was not able to help my team anymore and before the final whistle I did a mistake.
‘Sorry again to the referee and to everyone I have disappointed last night.’
