Jetour Malaysia has a local assembly (CKD) partner, and it’s Berjaya Assembly Sdn Bhd, owner of the Johor plant previously known as Oriental Assemblers that used to build Chery, Changan, Dongfeng, Honda and Hyundai vehicles, amongst others.
The first 100 units of the Dashing SUV, which launched today, will be fully imported (CBU); CKD is set to start next month. Today saw Jetour Auto VP Ke Chuandeng, and Berjaya Corporation founder and advisor cum Berjaya Assets major shareholder Tan Sri Datuk Seri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun officiate the agreement exchange between the two companies.
“The collaboration embraces intelligent manufacturing principles aligned with Industry 4.0, integrating advanced digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things, and robotics into manufacturing processes to enhance productivity, efficiency, and flexibility,” Jetour Malaysia’s release said.
As the slides above say, Jetour Malaysia is looking at manufacturing, research and development (R&D) and network investments of RM560 million, RM216 million and RM65 million respectively, plus the creation of over 3,200 jobs and a production localisation rate in excess of 40%.
It also plans to export from Malaysia to ASEAN, Oceania and the Middle East, as well as make Malaysia its Asia-Pacific (APAC) R&D hub, with input from Jetour Indonesia, Jetour Thailand and Jetour Australia.
It was reported last month that in a bid to expand its assembly operations, Berjaya Assembly, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Berjaya Assets, had entered a RM10 million joint-venture with HSHP Auto Technology and PG Car Centre (Northern Region) to establish Berjaya Autotech, with the ownerships being Berjaya Assembly 51%, HSHP 39% and PG Car Centre 10%.
