I’ve won over $25m playing golf but have made unwanted PGA Tour history

Tommy Fleetwood’s ongoing quest for a first PGA Tour win means he now holds a unique place in golf’s record books. The Englishman has been a mainstay among the top of leaderboards in recent years, but his near misses mean he is now the first player to surpass $25million in prize money without ever lifting a trophy on the Tour.  Tommy Fleetwood has claimed an Olympic medal before a PGA Tour winGetty According to PGA statistics, Fleetwood has amassed a total of $26.6m (£20.5) in on-course career earnings to date. Remarkably however, all of this eye-watering figure has come without a win in any the 149 Tour events he has played in since joining in 2018. While his trophy drought is undoubtedly something Fleetwood will be keen to put an end to, his journey to this milestone also highlights his consistency at the top of golf. The 34-year-old currently boasts 25 top-five finishes on the PGA Tour, the most of any player on the circuit over the past 40 years without a victory. Fleetwood has also finished in third place on five occasions, as well as being a runner-up at a further five events. His continued hunt for a Tour win is made all the more surprising given the world number nine’s impressive achievements elsewhere. Fleetwood is a seven-time champion on the DP World Tour, while he is a two-time major runner-up, having finished in second place at the 2018 US Open and The Open in 2019. The 34-year-old has also enjoyed success on the Olympic stage, claiming a silver medal for Team GB at the 2024 Games in Paris. And while Fleetwood’s quest for PGA Tour silverware continued at the recent Players’ Championship, where he finished 14th, he was handsomely rewarded for his efforts. He bagged $418,750 for ranking outside of the top ten at Sawgrass, as winner Rory McIlroy pocketed a staggering $4.5m.
