GSSNHR, Tole & Qting – Hejo

GSSNHR, Tole, and Qting deliver an electrifying fusion of tech house and old-school house energy in their latest release, Hejo. More than just a dancefloor anthem, this track is an artistic and political statement, born from a demonstration against fascism in Hamburg. Through its relentless groove, pulsating basslines, and evocative vocal work, Hejo captures the spirit of resistance while offering an infectious sonic experience.

From the first beat, Hejo establishes itself as a rhythm-driven powerhouse. The percussion is a standout element, with Argentinian percussionist Juanma Benitez infusing the track with organic textures that add warmth and dynamism. The groove is carefully constructed, layering crisp hi-hats, rolling snares, and punchy kicks that create an unstoppable momentum. It’s a track that keeps the body moving, effortlessly locking dancers into its hypnotic pulse.

At the core of Hejo lies its bassline—a deep, driving force that anchors the track with weight and groove. Thilo Ilg’s production expertise shines here, crafting a bassline that is both fluid and forceful. The low-end remains tight and controlled, ensuring maximum impact without overwhelming the mix. The interplay between bass and percussion fosters a rhythmic interplay reminiscent of classic house grooves while maintaining a distinctly modern touch.

Adding a layer of intrigue and intensity, the synth work in Hejo is subtle yet effective. The track leans into old-school house sensibilities, with warm chords and atmospheric pads weaving in and out of the mix. These elements create a sense of depth, giving the track an expansive quality. The restrained use of synths allows the vocals and percussion to take center stage, but when they emerge, they add an essential melodic texture that enhances the track’s hypnotic effect.

Perhaps the most striking element of Hejo is its vocal performance. Qting, a professional opera singer from Indonesia, brings a powerful and unexpected dynamic to the track. Her delivery, combined with the raw, defiant protest chants of “Wehrt euch, leistet Widerstand”, transforms Hejo into an anthem of unity and resistance. The presence of trumpet players Mykhailo Kobets (Ukraine) and Francisco G (Venezuela) further amplifies the track’s global essence, infusing the arrangement with bold brass stabs that punctuate the rhythm with urgency and emotion.

Beyond its technical brilliance, Hejo carries an undeniable emotional weight. It embodies the idea that dance music is not just escapism but a tool for expression and defiance. The fusion of electronic beats with live instrumentation and politically charged vocals results in a track that feels alive, breathing with passion and purpose.

In an era where electronic music can sometimes feel formulaic, Hejo stands out as a testament to creativity and authenticity. GSSNHR, Tole, and Qting have crafted a track that is not only a masterclass in production but also a rallying cry for change. Whether experienced on a massive club sound system or through headphones, Hejo resonates deeply—urging listeners to dance, resist, and rise together.

This is a release we are truly proud to feature on our webzine. A high-quality production with a powerful message, Hejo is proof that music, at its best, moves both the body and the soul.
