Introducing ThunderDonk – Scapegrace expands into liqueur category with flavoured whisky
Available in Spiced Maple and Salted Caramel, the expression blends authentic single malt whisky distilled at Scapegrace’s new distillery by Lake Dunstan in Central Otago.
New Zealand’s largest spirits producer Scapegrace Distillery has debuted ThunderDonk, an innovative flavoured whisky crafted in Central Otago.
Developed over 18 months, the aged spirit combines with bold flavours as it aims to disrupt the category with what the brand claims is the “best-tasting flavoured whisky in the world”.
Available in Spiced Maple and Salted Caramel versions, the expression blends authentic single malt whisky distilled at Scapegrace’s new distillery by Lake Dunstan in Central Otago.
The launch marks the distiller’s official foray into the liqueur category, leveraging the rising popularity of flavoured whisky, with market value expected to nearly double from from NZ$10 billion (US$5.6 billion) in 2023 to NZ$19 billion (US$10.6 billion) by 2032.
Scapegrace Co-Founder Daniel McLaughlin said, “ThunderDonk is bringing an independent, bold, and locally made flavoured whisky to the market. This is a drink that’s made to share and unite, and we wanted a name which encapsulated that.
“We don’t take ourselves too seriously, but we’re serious about what’s in the bottle, especially when it comes to our flavour profiles.”
ThunderDonk offers a balanced blend of sweet, savoury and spice, recommended for cocktails, chilled shots or sipping neat.
McLaughlin added, “This is a product that really stands out, whether it’s on the backbar or on your shelf at home. The flavours have been meticulously developed and it’s the perfect drink to enjoy with friends.

ThunderDonk has nationwide distribution through top retailers with an RRP of NZ$59.99 (US$34).
