Inter booked their place in the 2025 Champions League final with a remarkable 7-6 aggregate victory over Barca. The first leg in Spain ended 3-3 and fans were treated to even more fireworks in a stunning second leg at the San Siro. Inter Milan opened up a 2-0 half-time lead but Barcelona came roaring back in the second half and looked on course for the final when Raphinha completed the comeback with a late goal. But Francesco Acerbi’s injury-time equaliser sent the tie to extra-time and Davide Frattesi scored a dramatic winner to spark incredible scenes inside one of football’s iconic stadiums. Inzaghi was full of praise for Barcelona after the Spanish side’s heartbreaking Champions League exit and singled out ‘sensational’ Frenkie de Jong for special praise. ‘We must compliment Barcelona because they are truly a strong opponent,’ Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia. They were exemplary. I told the players to believe, that we could try to limit Barcelona, even though it wasn’t easy to do. Hansi Flick was ‘proud’ of his Barcelona side (Picture: Getty) ‘Frenkie de Jong impressed me every bit as much as Yamal, he cleans the ball, times the passes well, he’s wonderful. ‘I would not change my players for anyone in the world, but over the two legs I found De Jong to be really sensational.’ Inter Milan will face either Ligue 1 champions PSG or Premier League giants Arsenal in the Champions League final on May 31. Speaking after Barcelona’s agonising exit, manager Hansi Flick said: ‘I’m very disappointed that we’re out – but I’m not disappointed about the performance of my team. They tried everything. ‘We’re out, but next year we’ll start again and we’ll make our fans, the club and everyone around us happy. ‘They [Inter] are a really good team, a strong team who defend well but also they have a really good striker. ‘In the second half we were really good. I don’t want to speak about the referee but every 50/50 decision was for them. We gave everything but in the end it was like that and that’s what made me a bit sad.’ For more stories like this, check our sport page.
