The Toronto Maple Leafs may have to continue their quest for the Atlantic Division title without two lineup staples.
Defenceman Jake McCabe and centre David Kampf each missed practice Friday after suffering injuries during the team’s Wednesday win over the Florida Panthers, Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun reported.
McCabe was hit into the boards with just under two minutes left in the game and did not play the final 1:10 as the Leafs attempted to hold on to a 3-2 lead.
It was unclear how Kampf suffered his injury.
Head coach Craig Berube did not have an update on either while talking to reporters after the game.
Defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson skated in McCabe’s usual spot next to Chris Tanev at practice, while Philippe Myers backfilled on a third pairing with Simon Benoit.
Winger Nick Robertson slotted in for Kampf on the fourth line as Pontus Holmberg slid to centre.
McCabe has two goals and 23 points in 66 games this season while averaging a career-high 21:31 of ice time.
Kampf, 30, has recorded five goals and 13 points in 58 games, missing 12 games earlier this season due to a lower-body injury.
The Maple Leafs, who lead the Atlantic by three points over the Tampa Bay Lightning, return to action Saturday when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Hockey Night in Canada.
