Goldstein Talks “Ted Lasso” S4 & A Dead Cat

Roy Kent himself, actor/writer Brett Goldstein, has commented on the upcoming revival of “Ted Lasso” for a fourth season on the Apple TV+ service… and the result is more Roy Kent than you might expect.

At last report last month, creator and star Jason Sudeikis confirmed a fourth season is in the works with the team “currently in the process of writing” the new episodes right now. Those episodes will see Ted coaching a women’s team.

Options on Goldstein, along with actors Hannah Waddingham and Jeremy Swift, were all picked up by Apple prior to work recommencing on the series with those actors expected back along with Juno Temple as Keeley Jones.

Goldstein, who will also executive produce, appeared on the Wild Card podcast where he was asked about the fourth season. He confirmed he’s in the writer’s room on the new run right now, and then goes on to tell a “Pet Sematary” style story as a metaphor for the show’s resurrection:

“I have a friend that I went to university with, and I think about this a lot. He had a cat that died. He loved his cat, and the cat was run over, and they buried the cat, buried it. And he was a child.

They buried the cat in the garden, and he lay in bed so sad, so upset and crying, and he prayed and he prayed and he wished. ‘I wish the cat would come back.’ And then the cat did come back, and it turned out the cat they buried wasn’t their cat. And I think about that all the time.

And so, I’m like, no wonder this guy is f—ked in the head, because he thinks death isn’t real, so of course he’s insane. He’s such a weird guy, cause he thinks he can bring things back from the dead.

I guess I’m saying I feel like that kid. Like ‘We buried it… We all cried, we had a funeral. Are you saying we can bring anything back?’ It’s too much power.”

Many of the other members of the cast have all indicated repeatedly that they would be happy to reprise their roles so more casting news is likely to come soon.
