Paradine Competition has enlisted Sean Gelael to join the team’s full season Bronze Cup lineup in GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup as Toby Sowery takes a step back into a CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa-only role due to his new IndyCar reserve driver commitments.
Gelael will pilot the No. 991 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, lining up alongside team owner Darren Leung and BMW factory driver Dan Harper, taking Sowery’s place as the mandatory Silver-rated driver in the lineup.
Sowery was previously named when BMW named revealed the full extent of its GTWC Europe involvement last month, but a Paradine spokesperson confirmed to Sportscar365 that Gelael will take his place for all five Endurance Cup rounds.
Instead, Sowery is set to join the British squad in June’s CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa, his program having been scaled back as a result of his new role as a reserve and development driver with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in the NTT IndyCar Series that was announced last month.
Gelael has an existing relationship with Bronze-rated Leung, having been co-drivers in the FIA World Endurance Championship’s LMGT3 class since last year.
They took BMW’s first WEC victory in the 6 Hours of Imola and subsequently remained together when Leung made the switch to United Autosports and McLaren last year.
Century’s second Endurance Cup entry, entered into Silver Cup, will be driven by James Kellett, Pedro Ebrahim and Charles Clark.
