A dump truck has crashed into the iconic Los Angeles music venue Whisky a Go Go, just hours before the band Boy Hits Car were scheduled to perform there.
Fox 11 LA reported that on Friday afternoon (May 9), the truck crashed into power poles and several vehicles in the venue’s car park before colliding with the building itself. No injuries have been reported.
At the time, the LA-based band said on Instagram that power was out in the building and it was uncertain whether the gig would go ahead. Drummer Erik Peterson then appeared on the account with bassist Bill Gower to announce the concert would in fact be cancelled, making a joke relating to the band’s name by saying “Truck Hits Whisky!”
The caption to the video read: “Everyone is ok, but the show at @thewhiskyagogo tonight is cancelled. It’s all over the news but if you haven’t heard or seen, a dump truck took out a power pole and hit the building. If you bought tickets they’re being refunded. We will definitely be rescheduling asap!!”
The band members used the clip to promote their new single, ‘Mind Elevation’, which you can listen to via the link below.
Opening in 1964, Whisky a Go Go is a legendary venue, playing a pivotal in the development of the Los Angeles music scene. Acts such as The Doors, Guns N Roses, Janis Joplin, and Frank Zappa all rose to fame performing there, as it became hallowed ground for those looking to follow in their footsteps.
In 2006, it became the first live music venue ever to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In January, British guitarist Sophie Lloyd, who previously toured as part of Machine Gun Kelly’s live band, played her first gig as a solo artist at the venue.
