Ahead of its mid-2025 Australian launch, CarExpert has revealed some details on the Ford Ranger PHEV that will be sold there – almost two years after it was first unveiled to the world – based on government approval documents.
Australia will get their Ranger PHEVs from South Africa (instead of Thailand like other Ranger models), which will subject them to a 5% import tariff. Aussies will be able to choose between a double-cab or a double-chassis cab, and XLT, Sport, Wildtrak or Stormtrak variants.
There’ll be a 281 PS 2.3 litre EcoBoost turbo engine, a 10-speed auto, a 102 PS electric motor and an 11.8 kWh battery. The battery, which sits beneath the bed and on PHEV-specific chassis rails, should give 45 km of electric-only range. The braked towing capacity is 3.5 tonnes like most Rangers, and it’ll have a 2.3 kW power outlet inside and two 3.45 kW outlets in the bed.
It’ll be Australia’s third PHEV ute – the AUD57,900 (RM164k) BYD Shark 6 got there first last October, and the AUD63,990-68,990 (RM181k-195k) Great Wall Motor (GWM) Cannon Alpha PHEV is coming in April.
