Ernie Hudson Joins “Toy Story 5”

Beloved “Ghostbusters” and “Congo” actor Ernie Hudson will take over the voice role of Combat Carl in the upcoming “Toy Story 5” at Disney.

Hudson steps into a role that the late Carl Weathers (“Rocky,” “Predator”) played in “Toy Story 4”. Weathers died over a year ago.

The character is a G.I. Joe-type soldier with Weathers having voiced multiple versions of the character that appeared on screen – including many dismembered dolls. The character also appeared in the 2013 “Toy Story of Terror!” TV special.

This won’t be Hudson’s first animated gig, he’s also lent his voice to films like “Clifford’s Really Big Movie” and shows like “Superman: The Animated Series,” “Transformers: Prime,” “Robot Chicken” and “Star Wars: The Bad Batch”.

Hudson was last seen on our screens in “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” at the movies and in the “Quantum Leap” reboot on TV.

Andrew Stanton is helming “Toy Story 5” from a script he wrote, while Tom Hanks returns as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear. Joan Cusack’s Jessie is also said to have a major role. The film opens in cinemas on June 19th 2026.
