The 65-year-old is now in his second spell in charge of Japan, having also returned to coach his native Australia again in 2023. His extensive knowledge of Australian rugby goes back further too having first coached their national team between 2001 and 2005. His Australia A side also beat the Lions 28-25 on the 2001 tour, which was the only team to beat the tourists on that trip besides the Wallabies.
