The rehydration clause has been a serious bone of contention and threatened to derail things. The rivalry between the pair reached a boiling point when Eubank Jr slapped Benn across the face with an egg during a heated press conference in Manchester. A video later emerged showing that the boxer’s promoters were also involved, with Hearn seen shoving Shalom amid the chaos. In an interview after the incident, the Matchroom chairman called Shalom ‘snaky’ as he refused to believe he was unaware of Eubank Jr’s egg stunt. Ahead of the weekend, Hearn was asked by talkSPORT’s Gareth A Davies if this fight is an opportunity to ‘put one over’ on the Boxxer promoter. “I didn’t even know there was a rivalry,” dismissed Hearn.
