Meta Quest users will have more horror gaming next month, courtesy of publisher Mastiff and developer Nomad Monkey’s subterranean VR horror game Tunnels. Along with a new trailer revealed at the Ruff Talk VR Games Showcase, Tunnels will be coming to the Meta Quest on May 15th.
Initially released in 2023 as a demo, the upcoming release of Tunnels includes an enhanced free-to-play multiplayer experience and a trial version of a brand-new single-player experience. The full single-player experience will be available for download as DLC for $14.99.
Tunnels is definitely aimed at fans of The Descent. Described as a “heart-pounding, claustrophobia-inducing VR horror experience,” players are trapped underground in an abandoned mine shaft. Armed with only their wits, players must navigate the claustrophobic passageways to find a way out, all the while encountering the horrors lurking in the shadows.
Relying solely on a lone voice over the radio to survive, players are engulfed in gameplay as they embark on a story-driven plunge into suffocating darkness. Players must plunge into eerie underground lakes, zipline over bottomless chasms, and scale sheer cliffs—all while evading the nightmarish creatures lurking in the depths.
The multiplayer campaign sees players teaming up with friends (and strangers) in order to escape the tunnels. You’ll need to work together to survive the horrors, or you can choose to betray your teammates in order to save yourself. Players can customize their multiplayer character with unique gear and “show off their style.”
