Amazon Prime Video has boarded Sony Pictures Television’s “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” a TV series adaptation of the title from Wang Dulu’s Crane-Iron Pentalogy novel series.
Combining stunning landscapes and spectacular action, the series follows Shu Lien and Mu Bai, two star-crossed warriors, as they struggle between forbidden love and the pull of modernity.
The pair find themselves caught between preserving their way of life or embracing a future together. Jason Ning (“Lucifer”) is writing and will executive produce alongside Ron Moore (“Battlestar Galactica”).
Sony owns the rights to the entire Crane-Iron book series and it’s expected the series will go beyond ‘Crouching Tiger’ which was the fourth book in the series and the one that served as the basis for Ang Lee’s Oscar-winning 2000 film starring Michelle Yeoh and Chow Yun-Fat.
Published between 1938 and 1944, the books chronicle the struggles of four generations of youxia (ancient Chinese warrior folk heroes) and consist of (in chronological order): “Crane Startles Kunlun,” “Precious Sword, Golden Hairpin,” “Sword Force, Pearl Shine,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” and “Iron Knight, Silver Vase”.
Johnny Levin, Roy Lee, Maril Davis, Hong Wang and Qin Wang will all executive produce.
