Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: Brave New World” is reportedly targeting a $190 million global box-office opening over the weekend. That’s a fraction over its reported $180 million production budget.
The film is reportedly on track for an $80 million three-day and $94 million four-day opening domestically, with the overseas take expected to be around $110 million by end of Sunday.
That includes China where it’s going day-and-date and is expected to take in around $20 million from that market alone.
It may face issues there as local animated sequel “Ne Zha 2” is still going strong and has pulled in an astonishing $1.2 billion after two weeks in the market – it’s already the No. 5 animated movie of all time globally.
U.S. presales for ‘Brave New World’ are reportedly pacing 10%-15% behind “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” which opened to $106.1 million domestically.
Sony will open “Paddington in Peru” in the U.S. over the weekend following a successful $104 million take overseas over the past two months.
The U.S. domestic haul for that film is tipped to be around $15-17 million for the four-day holiday, on par with the $15 million that “Paddington 2” got on a four-day holiday weekend back in 2018.
“Paddington in Peru” is expected to dominate with family audiences until the arrival of the live-action “Snow White” in late March.
