BYD has teased a new mid-size electric sedan called the e7, which looks to be targeted at EV buyers on a budget. While the company isn’t revealing much in the way of details for now, a regulatory filing with China’s ministry of industry and information technology (MIIT) provides some preliminary information.
For starters, the e7 measures 4,780 mm long, 1,900 mm wide, 1,515 mm tall and has a wheelbase spanning 2,820 mm. These figures are close to those of the Seal that is 4,800 mm long, 1,875 mm wide, 1,460 mm tall and with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm.
The general appearance of BYD’s upcoming electric vehicle (EV) also appears to be similar to its stablemate with CarNewsChina suggesting this could be a cut-down, cheaper alternative to the Seal (note the traditional door handles).
As for the powertrain, it is reported the e7 will have a single electric motor at the front rated at 136 PS (134 hp or 100 kW). This is paired with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs with an energy capacity of 48 kWh (450 km CLTC range) or 57.6 kWh (520 km).
Given these specifications, the e7 is largely expected to be used as a taxi or ride-hailing car, similar to the e2. The latter is a hatchback that has reportedly been removed from BYD’s China website, and it was also available in sedan form as the e3.
