Bryson DeChambeau revealed that Rory McIlroy ‘didn’t talk to him once all day’ despite being playing partners during the final round of the Masters.

It looked likely to be a battle between the Northern Irishman and the American for the green jacket on Sunday, with McIlroy going into the final round two shots clear in the lead.

A double-bogey on the first quickly cost McIlroy his lead, but he recovered beautifully later in the round, while DeChambeau fell away.

The two-time US Open champion ended the day three-over-par to finish seven-under for the tournament and had to settle for a tied fifth finish. His best at the Masters but a disappointing end.

While his challenge faded, McIlroy took his all the way to a sudden death play-off, where he beat Justin Rose on the first additional hole to complete the career Grand Slam.

DeChambeau was asked how the champion would be feeling having claimed the Masters title for a first time and the American could not offer any insight as McIlroy offered him nothing all day.

‘No idea,’ said DeChambeau. ‘Didn’t talk to me once all day.’ He later repeated the story, saying: ‘He wouldn’t talk to me.’

The 31-year-old also commented on how the eventual champion was not interacting too much with fans on the course, while he was happy to dish out some high fives ahead of the first tee shot.

‘He [McIlroy] was just being focused, I guess. It’s not me, though,’ said DeChambeau.

McIlroy’s ruthless approach clearly paid off as he joined an elite six-man club to complete a career Grand Slam.

Only Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Ben Hogan, Gary Player and Gene Sarazan were members of that incredible club before McIlroy joined them on Sunday.
