Blue Jays sign pitcher Connor Overton to minor-league contract

The Toronto Blue Jays are beefing up their pitching depth.

Starter Connor Overton signed a minor-league contract with the club on Thursday, per MLB.com’s transaction log.

Overton, 31, made his MLB debut as a Blue Jay in 2021 before bouncing between teams, including stints with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds. He most recently spent spring training with the New York Mets.

Over 18 big-league appearances, including 10 starts, Overton has recorded a 4.85 ERA with 38 strikeouts and 23 walks in 59.1 innings.

He appears poised to join the rotation in triple-A Buffalo.

The Blue Jays are currently running a four-man rotation due to the Max Scherzer’s injury followed by Easton Lucas’s struggles.

After an off-day Thursday, Toronto begins a three-game series in New York against the Yankees on Friday.
