Toronto Blue Jays reliever Brendon Little was lifted in the eighth inning of Friday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles with an apparent injury.
Little go the first two outs of the frame in his first appearance of the season. But after throwing a ball to Orioles outfielder Colton Cowser, the left-hander seemed to tweak something and was visited by Blue Jays manager John Schneider and trainer Jose Ministral.
He appeared to feel the injury on the pitch prior, looking into the dugout after throwing an 0-1 strike.
Little threw multiple test pitches before he was ultimately removed.
Right-hander Nick Sandlin entered and got the final out of the inning on two pitches.
After the Blue Jays’ 8-2 win, manager John Schneider told reporters that Little had a “left lat cramp” and felt “out of sync.” The plan is to evaluate him further.
Little, 28, is entering his second season with the Blue Jays. In 2024, he posted a 3.74 ERA over 45.2 innings while collecting 36 strikeouts.
Toronto already began the year with some injury questions in its bullpen, as Erik Swanson and Ryan Burr are currently on the 15-day IL.
