Blue Jays’ George Springer leaves game vs. Orioles with wrist injury, considered day-to-day

The Toronto Blue Jays‘ sputtering offence may have just taken a hit.

Designated hitter George Springer exited Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles with left wrist discomfort, the team said.

It is unclear what happened to Springer. Manager John Schneider and head trainer Jose Ministral visited with him during a fifth-inning at-bat, but he finished the plate appearance, striking out with two outs and two men in scoring position.

After the game, Schneider told reporters that Springer’s X-rays came back negative and that he is considered day-to-day going forward.

Springer, 35, left a game against the New York Mets earlier in April after crashing into an outfield wall. The team said he was experiencing lower back spasms, but he returned one day later as a pinch runner.

Through 15 games, Springer was batting a league-leading .400 to go with two home runs and 10 RBIs.
