Blue Jays’ Chris Bassitt serves fantasy football punishment at spring training

That’s because Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt had to serve his fantasy football punishment in front of the crowd at TD Ballpark in Dunedin, Fla.
Bassitt, who came in dead last in the Blue Jays’ fantasy football league, was forced to don a jersey featuring his 4-10 record in Saturday’s matinee against the New York Yankees. In addition to wearing his less-than-stellar record like a badge of honour, Bassitt also was to serve as the team’s honorary bat boy.
To add further insult to injury, it’s also Bassitt’s 36th birthday. What a way to celebrate.
It’s not the first time the Blue Jays have doled out their punishments on the spring training stage, and reliever Tim Mayza knows that all too well.
In February 2024, Mayza — who also finished dead last with a 4-10 record the previous year — served as bat boy for the first three innings of a pre-season game against the Philadelphia Phillies while also wearing his, er, modified jersey.
Bassitt won’t be taking the mound on Saturday, making him fully available to dutifully perform in his new role for the Blue Jays.
