Blue Jays’ Bo Bichette blasts first home run in nearly one year

Bo Bichette was tired of waiting around.
The Toronto Blue Jays shortstop launched a home run on the first pitch of Saturday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians, snapping a 63-game drought that spanned nearly one year.
Bichette’s last long ball came May 27, 2024, against Chicago White Sox pitcher Nick Nastrini.
There were 347 hitters in the major leagues with over 200 plate appearances dating back to late last May, and Bichette was the only one without a home run.
But that changed when he turned on a 97-m.p.h. fastball from Guardians starter Gavin Williams, sending it deep into the left-field seats at Rogers Centre.
The 27-year-old Bichette struggled through injury last season, hitting just four home runs in 81 games.
A healthy return this season has seen him sporting a .285/.317/.358 slash line with 13 RBIs through 32 games prior to Saturday’s big blast.
The Blue Jays are aiming for their fourth straight win.
