Ukrainian design studio Between the Walls has included padded surfaces, aluminium panels and a circular ball pit inside this Kyiv boutique.
The womenswear store, named One by One, is located in the Lavina Mall in the northwest of the city.
Its interiors carry a minimalist, futuristic aesthetic created by the combination of white, metallic and powder blue surfaces.
Between the Walls designed the flagship showroom for the fashion brand as a space of "lightness and joy" where shoppers could momentarily escape the collective weariness felt due to the war with Russia.
"This project was a personal reception of the opposing emotions I've been feeling due to the ongoing war in Ukraine," said lead designer Victoria Karieva.
"Through the concept of the interactive pool and playful design elements, we wanted to offer an escape – a place where people could experience joy, ease, and a sense of distraction, even if just for a short while."
To create a playful atmosphere, a circular pit filled with light blue balls is installed in the centre of the store, and wrapped in white square tiles interlaced with red grout.
"This unexpected element creates a sense of lightness and entertainment, embodying the carefree energy of summer — an environment where customers can feel as though they've been transported away from the bustling centre of Kyiv into a world of leisure and ease," the studio said.
Squares become a recurring motif throughout the space, featured across the white floor tiles and padded pale blue and white accent walls.
These appear behind the sales counter, in niches created for displaying apparel and inside the fitting rooms.
Vertical aluminium panels wrap the front of the counter and encircle the top third of the walls.
Metal rails on which clothes are hung and ladder-like racks in the fitting rooms match the finish of the panelling.
Low, chunky white podiums between the rails present folded T-shirts and accessories, which are also placed on thick shelves around the perimeter.
A waiting area for those not trying on the products is formed by a cloud-like pale blue sofa positioned below a circular mirror.
"Not only is it a comfortable waiting area, but it's also designed to encourage customers to snap photos, extending the showroom's reach through social media," said Between the Walls.
Other projects that have completed in the Ukranian capital since the Russia invasion in February 2022 include a sex shop with a "subtle and sophisticated" interior, a fashion store featuring sinuous display rails and a former nightclub converted into a sparsely-decorated bistro.
The photography is by Dmytro Dychek and Pavlo Lutov.
