Bayer Leverkusen vs Bochum predictions After Bayer Leverkusen failed to beat Bayern Munich last month, the Bundesliga title race was widely declared to be done and dusted.  Not so fast. Results immediately prior to the March international break have given Leverkusen a glimmer of hope as they seek to retain their crown. A victory over Bochum on Friday night would move Xabi Alonso’s side within three points of top spot. The pressure would then be on Bayern to respond against St Pauli the following day. A successful Leverkusen title defence still looks improbable. With eight rounds of fixtures remaining, Bayern hold a six-point lead. Their vastly superior goal difference is in effect worth an extra point too. Still, Bayern’s failure to beat Union Berlin earlier this month has left the door slightly ajar.  A 1-1 draw in that match was preceded by a 3-2 home loss to Bochum in which Vincent Kompany’s charges surrendered a two-goal lead (the red card shown to Joao Palhinha shortly before half-time proved to be a turning point). Bayern recently eased past Leverkusen in the Champions League, winning the all-German last-16 tie 5-0 on aggregate. Domestically, though, they have been far from perfect of late, winning only two of their last five league outings. Nevertheless, Bayern remain red-hot favourites to finish atop the table. One bookmaker prices them at 1/100 for the title, with Leverkusen rank outsiders at a high of 20/1.  That pricing feels a little off given the two teams could be separated by just three points by the end of the weekend. Bayern also have the Champions League to contend with between now and the conclusion of the campaign. Leverkusen are unlikely to win the title from here, but they must ensure they do everything they can. There are no excuses for Alonso’s team to drop points on Friday, for instance.  In fact, they ought to be collecting 12 points from the next 12 available: their next four opponents are currently in the bottom six.  In the same period, Bayern will face Borussia Dortmund in a crunch clash sandwiched between the two legs of their Champions League quarter-final against Inter. You would patently rather be in Bayern’s shoes than Leverkusen’s heading into gameweek 27, but it is now clear that those who pronounced the end of the Bundesliga title race in February spoke prematurely. Bayer Leverkusen vs Bochum predictions

After Bayer Leverkusen failed to beat Bayern Munich last month, the Bundesliga title race was widely declared to be done and dusted.

Bayer Leverkusen -1.5 Asian handicap

Bochum’s shock 3-2 triumph over Bayern Munich earlier this month shows the threat they pose should not be taken for granted.

A handsome Leverkusen victory on Friday would put Bayern under real pressure the following day, much more so than a slender success would.

Bayer Leverkusen over 2.5 goals

Bayer Leverkusen were involved in a seven-goal thriller in their final outing before the March international break, beating Stuttgart 4-3.

It was a topsy-turvy affair at the MHP Arena. Leverkusen found themselves 2-0 and 3-1 down, leaving their title chances hanging by a thread. But courtesy of Patrik Schick’s winner in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time, the champions emerged triumphant.

Patrik Schick to score any time

Schick has really stepped up to the plate this season.

The Czech Republic international scored just seven Bundesliga goals in 2023/24. Already this term he has 17 strikes to his name.

Only Harry Kane has been more prolific in Germany’s top tier. Schick is now four goals behind the Bayern Munich striker and it is not beyond the realms of possibility that he catches him up.

The 29-year-old is full of confidence right now and he has had to take on even more responsibility since Florian Wirtz’s injury.

Schick is now the main man in the Leverkusen attack and Bochum will struggle to keep him quiet on Friday.
