Bandai Namco Adds Shadow Labyrinth to the UGSF Timeline
Bandai Namco has updated its UGSF series webpage by editing five titles in the lineup, and Shadow Labyrinth is also newly added to the list. This also means the new upcoming game showcased at the 2024 Game Awards and the March 2025 Nintendo Direct will be part of the same universe timeline as Ace Combat, Dig Dug, Mr Driller, and Namco's other classic arcade games. UGSF—short for United Galaxy Space Force—is a universe concept covering Namco's space-themed games that the company conceived during the development of the arcade game Galaxian 3 in 1990. Namco, which eventually merged into Bandai Namco, gradually added its newer original titles to the timeline, which officially began with the 1999 PS1 game Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere in the year 2040. As a side note, Electrosphere is also the latest game timeline-wise in the Ace Combat series' Strangereal world history. Bandai Namco placed Shadow Labyrinth in the year 3333. It will take place after the events of the unreleased arcade real-time strategy game New Space Order, which ran from 2845 to 3210. The page mentions that there were two failed operations on the planet that will serve as the new game's setting; those two were Operation Cheyenne in 3210 and Operation Panzer in 3300. The company added that SwordMan and PUCK, the main characters of Shadow Labyrinth, will eventually reveal the shadow of the whole universe. Shadow Labyrinth is not the only title featured in the late March 2025 update on the UGSF website. Bandai Namco also updated the list with the following four titles: The 1994 arcade title Nebulasray, the 1985 arcade game Baraduke, the 1988 sequel Baraduke II, and the 2008 Xbox 360 entry Galaga Legions. Bandai Namco will release Shadow Labyrinth worldwide on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC on July 18, 2025.
