Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has revealed that their track ‘A Tout Le Monde’ was originally supposed to feature Lisa Marie Presley.

The fan favourite song comes from the band’s 1994 album ‘Youthanasia’ – their most commercial sounding record at the time – and was originally sung by Mustaine alone.

13 years later, the band revisited the track with the intention of re-recording it as a duet. This updated version was retitled ‘A Tout Le Monde (Set Me Free)’, and appeared on their 2007 album ‘United Abominations’ featuring Lacuna Coil singer Cristina Scabbia.

In a newly recirculated interview with Metal Hammer, Mustaine revealed that Scabbia wasn’t the first person he approached to appear on the new version of the song. The frontman shared that he had considered two unnamed singers before reaching out to Presley.

However, the proposal fell through at the last minute. “She was literally getting onto the plane,” Mustaine said. “I felt awkward about it, but I’ve got a bad enough reputation and so has she.”

In another interview with Straight.com, he revealed: “We had to call and say, ‘Sorry, we changed our minds. I would have loved to have heard what Lisa Marie Presley would have done.”

Presley, the only daughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley and sole heir to the former’s estate died at the age of 54 on January 12 2023, after suffering a cardiac arrest at her Calabasas home.

Her posthumous memoir, From Here To The Great Unknown, was published on October 8 and recalls her time in Graceland as a child, her battle with opioid addictionthe loss of her son Benjamin and more.

Presley began working on the book before her death, and it was completed by her daughter Riley Keough (Daisy Jones & The Six), who listened to tapes of memories left behind by her mother.

Elsewhere in the book, the singer-songwriter has also shared details about her relationship with Michael Jackson, claiming that he was “still a virgin” when they began dating.

In other Megadeth-related news, in December, it emerged that Megadeth are back in the studio working on a new album. It will be their 17th studio record and the follow-up to 2022’s ‘The Sick, The Dying And The Dead!’, although it appears that Mustaine is the only one to have begun studio work so far.
