The epic soundtrack to Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been given a lo-fi reimagining by Lofi Girl – check it out below.

Created by composer duo The Flight, the mammoth soundtrack for Assassin’s Creed Shadows brings together traditional Japanese instruments, Avant Garde pop, techno and rock. The 59 tracks from the ‘Original Soundtrack’ have been available to stream since the game launched last week.

Now developers Ubisoft have announced a collaboration with Lofi Girl, with a new album “offering lo-fi re-imaginings of tracks” from the Assassin’s Creed Shadows soundtrack.

“This collection blends the stealthy allure of Assassin’s Creed Shadows with soothing lo-fi beats,” Lofi Girl wrote on social media. “Join Naoe for a moment of peace and quiet as she paints the playful tanuki frolicking nearby. Enhance your gaming experience or simply relax with the new Stealthy beats to relax to.”

The 20-track album is available to stream now while a vinyl edition will be released later this year.

“Familiar melodies like Ezio’s Family have been reimagined as softer, more atmospheric tracks – ideal for unwinding, studying, or finding focus. Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering these themes for the first time, it’s a collection worth adding to your shelf,” reads the listing. You can pre-order the vinyl here.

Speaking to NME about the score, The Flight’s Joe Henson said: “At its heart, Assassin’s Creed is a science fiction franchise and we always wanted to make a modern sounding score. When we did Odyssey, we intentionally made the music sound older but for this one, we wanted to combine traditional Japanese instruments with something more contemporary,” so they looked at Western films and turned to acts like Wu-Tang Clan for inspiration.

Meanwhile the Assassin’s Creed X account has gone viral after a spicy reply to criticism from Elon Musk.

In other news, Grand Theft Auto 6 fans are convinced the long-awaited game will feature an appearance from Megan Thee Stallion.
