The album is slated to release under Columbia Records and will feature 10 tracks. While the band has remained a relatively low profile since frontman Win Butler faced sexual misconduct allegations in 2022, the band is back with its first release since 2022. Preceding its 10-track album, Arcade Fire also dropped a new single titled "Year of the Snake" alongside a set of cinematic visuals. According to the announcement, the album was produced by Butler, his wife and bandmate Régine Chassagne and Daniel Lanois. The 10 songs "of cinematic mystical punk" usher Arcade Fire into a new era. The announcement further states that the album name refers to "that paradoxical effect where the effort to suppress a thought leads to it being impossible to avoid."
