‘Alien’ Meets ‘Predator’: Elle Fanning’s ‘Predator: Badlands’ Character Is a Weyland-Yutani Synthetic!

The Predator: Badlands teaser trailer packs a lot into a mere minute, but there’s one major reveal that cannot go unmentioned.

Elle Fanning‘s lead character, Thia, is a Weyland-Yutani synthetic!

A close look at her eyes in the screen grab above reveals the logo of Weyland-Yutani, the unscrupulous megacorporation established in the Alien franchise.

Synthetics, also known as androids, are biomechanical humanoids like Ash in Alien, Bishop in Aliens, David in Prometheus, and Andy in Alien: Romulus.

Today’s trailer also features a glimpse of a Weyland-Yutani vehicle:

This marks the first connection between the Alien and Predator film franchises since 2004’s Alien vs. Predator and 2007’s Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, which are not considered canon to either mainline series.

The two properties’ shared history dates back to Dark Horse’s Aliens Versus Predator comic in 1989. A cinematic crossover was first hinted at in 1990’s Predator 2, in which a Xenomorph skull appears among the Predator’s trophies.

Set in the future on a remote planet, a young Predator (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi), outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Fanning) and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.

Dan Trachtenberg (Prey, 10 Cloverfield Lane) directs from a script he co-wrote with Patrick Aison (Prey).
