United are expected to bring Brazilian playmaker Cunha to Old Trafford this summer. Cunha, who has a release clause of £62.5m, signed a new deal with Wolves in January but did so knowing he would be put up for sale in the summer. Is he a bit of a maverick? Yeah, but you get that with most good players – they have an edge to them and a side which some people may not like. ‘You have to get around that and manage it in different ways and you look at the very best ever players at United, Eric Cantona, or George Best – I’m not comparing but most top players have something about them. ‘I was the same – I got into one or two fights in my career, but that’s what happens. You’ve got to have an edge to you. ‘United are missing so much in every position – we could talk all day about what’s gone wrong this season in those positions for them. Liam Delap has a release clause of just £30m (Picture: Getty) ‘They have also been linked with Liam Delap. But one or the other? They need to sign both. ‘They need a top-class centre-forward like Delap, but they need someone like Cunha as well. They need players defensively as well – all around the pitch they need reinforcements. ‘Whether they can go out and spend that much, I don’t know. I suspect that may depend whether they get into the Champions League or not. ‘I’ve read that there’s about a £30m release clause for Liam Delap, which means that someone is going to get a real bargain in that.  It isn’t a lot of money for a centre-forward with big potential, like he has. ‘He’ll have tons of options, Delap will. When you look at all the clubs who need a centre-forward in the Premier League – Arsenal, Chelsea, Man United, Liverpool, Spurs – there’ll be huge clubs all looking at Delap. ‘There’s no doubt, if it is that amount of money, then he will have big options.’ Manchester United are just 14th in the Premier League with five games remaining. Amorim’s side can, however, salvage a dismal campaign by winning the Europa League ahead of a semi-final tie with Athletic Bilbao. For more stories like this, check our sport page.
