Adrien Brody Oscar Speech Breaks Record

A long awards season has come to an end with the Oscars held last night and “Anora” sweeping most of the awards.

One of the exceptions was the best actor category where “The Brutalist” star and former Oscar winner Adrien Brody took home his second Academy Award.

That resulted in a speech that has reportedly broken the Guinness World Record for the longest acceptance speech in Oscars history.

Brody’s speech, which fluctuated between heartfelt, grateful, and rambling, clocked in at a reported 5 mins & 40 seconds. That beats the previous record set by Greer Garson at 5 mins & 30 secs.

Even so, it’s still behind the legendary 7 mins & 59 secs acceptance speech from “God of War” voice actor Christopher Judge at the Game Awards in 2022.

The reaction to the speech has been divisive with criticism over Brody being able to blow well past the allocated 45-second limit with little repercussions. That happened even as multiple other speeches were cut short, most notably the team behind “Dune: Part Two” who won for sound.

Others took issue with the way before walking up on stage he pulled some chewed up gum out of his mouth and threw it to his partner, Harvey Weinstein’s ex-wife Georgina Chapman.

Brody also drew attention to a more playful moment on the red carpet where Halle Berry planted a ‘revenge kiss’ on him for their famed moment 22 years ago where he accepted the Oscar and embraced Berry with an impromptu kiss on the lips.

The Oscars has also come under fire for the In Memoriam segment, some taking issue with the use of Mozart’s “Requiem” as being a bit ‘too much’ while most have had issues with the missing names from the segment including Michelle Trachtenberg, Tony Todd, Olivia Hussey, Linda Lavin, Martin Mull, James Darren, Chance Perdomo, Alain Delon and filmmaker Morgan Spurlock.
