Yuji Hori Didn’t Leak Chrono Trigger Remake (Update)

On May 2, 2025 at Comicon Naples 2025, Yuji Horii appeared at a Dragon Quest panel alongside Basiscape composer Gabriele “Richter” Negro. According to multiple attendees who posted on social media sites like Reddit, such as Kaguya Shinomiya who shared a video and The Fishy One who shared an initial account, he allegedly mentioned a Chrono Trigger remake, however an AnimeClickIt stream showed this was a mistranslation. Square Enix hasn’t confirmed any new take on the SNES game yet. [Thanks, AnimeClickIt and Gematsu!] (Editor’s Note: Updated at 9:40pm ET on May 2, 2025.) Allegedly, Yuji Horii brought up a potential and possible Chrono Trigger remake as an aside during the panel, which was intended to focus on the Dragon Quest series. However, updated footage showed it wasn’t what it seemed. Here’s the embedded video from AnimeClickIT the moment at the event: The original version of Chrono Trigger appeared on the SNES, and Yuji Horii was one of the writers who helped create it. It later appeared on the PlayStation and DS worldwide as well, with the DS version including new content. Mobile ports launched in 2011, and a PC one debuted in 2018.  While it hasn’t appeared in quite some time, we did see its follow-up not long ago. Square Enix released Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Editionon the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2022. That included the first English release of Radical Dreamers.
