Fans got their first taste of Everton’s glamorous new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock on Monday night, with the club’s new home hosting its first test event.

10,000 people watched the Toffees Under-18s lose to Wigan U-18s, but the attention was on the new surroundings rather than the football.

Everton have been based at Goodison Park for over 130 years so it will be an emotional departure when the club pack up and move down the road at the end of the season.

We have already seen an incredible final Merseyside derby at Goodison and now we are into the final stretch of home games for the club at their iconic home.

Everton’s last game of the season is away at Newcastle, so Goodison Park’s final competitive fixture comes against Southampton on 18 May.

Richard Kenyon, Chief Commercial and Communications Officer at Everton said of the test event on Monday: ‘Obviously, it was a test event so not everything’s going to be absolutely perfect but from the feedback that we’ve had so far, everything seems to have gone pretty well.

There’s a debrief going on at the moment, so there’ll be lots that we’ve learned, I’m sure, but the main thing is to get the supporters in, get the first game played and all of that to go well.’

What is the name of the new stadium?

For now, it will be simply called the Everton Stadium or Bramley-Moore Dock, but the club is looking for a naming rights partner for the new ground.

When will Everton start playing at their new stadium?

The Toffees are set to be in their new stadium in time to start the 2025/26 Premier League season, so the first competitive fixture will be in August.

Before that there will be two further test events, with the capacity increasing each time.

A club statement read: ‘The Club’s Under-21s will play a friendly for the second test event in late March or early April, when the capacity will be increased to 25,000.’

When the third test event and the number of fans able to attend is yet to be confirmed.

Bramley-Moore Dock is a former commercial dock first opened in 1848 on the River Mersey.

The capacity is set to be the seventh-biggest in the Premier League at 52,888.

Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, West Ham, Tottenham and Manchester United will have larger grounds, but it is a big step up from Goodison Park’s 39,572.
