Weezer are making a movie
At Coachella, Rivers Cuomo acknowledged the band are currently making “the Weezer movie” which may involve them fighting “big villains.”

There’s a lot of real life drama surrounding Weezer currently with bassist Scott Shriner’s wife having been shot and arrested by the LAPD, the band are are also currently making “the Weezer movie.” Rumors of the film have been circulating amongst fans for a while, but Rivers Cuomo confirmed the news on stage during the band’s performance at Coachella on Saturday.
“We’ve been busy making the Weezer movie back in L.A. the last couple weeks,” Rivers Cuomo told the Mojave Stage crowd. “But when Coachella called us up, said, ‘Hey Weezer, could you guys make it out for a surprise appearance?,’ we’re like, ‘Heck yeah!’ It feels so good to be here with you guys and let out these emotions.”
Stereogum points out that Weezer fans were recently invited to participate in a “private filmed merchandise signing” for a “TBA video” on June 21 where they would need to bring their own merch to be signed. This doesn’t appear to be just a documentary, though. A couple years ago Cuomo told Men’s Health, “We’re talking about making a movie. Not a performance movie, a movie movie.”
When the band’s 2024 Blue Album tour hit LA’s Intuit Dome last fall, comic actor and director Ben Schwartz (Jean-Ralphio on Parks & Rec) got the crowd to help out with a scene. “Now, there’s a big fight where Weezer is fighting these big villains,” he told them. “And what’s going to happen now is they’re going to follow me, and I’m going to be fighting in different areas. And I’m going to say, ‘Someone throws a punch at someone from Weezer,’ and you’ll react to that. And then I say, ‘And Weezer kicks their butt!,’ and you react to that.” Is Ben directing? Watch a clip of that happening below.
Apart from Cuomo acknowledging it exists at Coachella there’s been no other official word on the Weezer movie, so stay tuned.
