Watch Thou’s behind-the-scenes tour videos from 2024 tour with Slowhole

Louisiana sludge metal (and more) greats Thou released one of last year’s best albums with Umbilical, and they spent the fall on a West Coast tour with their neighbors Slowhole, who Thou vocalist Bryan Funck called “currently the best ‘heavy’ band in New Orleans by LEAGUES” when he named their self-titled LP one of his favorite albums of 2024. During that tour, bassist Mitch Wells and roadie/collaborator Derek Zimmer took the time to film all kinds of behind-the-scenes footage (and some on-stage footage) for a tour video log, and we’re helping Thou debut two of those videos right here.

About Derek’s nine-and-a-half minute video, titled “Shepherd Me O God: On Tour with Thou & Slowhole,” he says:

First and foremost, I want to say: Thank you to Thou for giving me the opportunity to go on tour with them–for tolerating me, really–all these years.

This video began life as little more than an urge to test out a super 8 camera my friend gifted me before setting off. What emerged in the making took on an unintentioned but consistent theme: the youthful exuberance of one band’s first West Coast tour juxtaposed with another’s world-weary acceptance that it could be their last.

Also captured in between, hopefully, is the spirit of tour at its best: adventure, friendship, and the grandeur of the world viewed through a van window.

Mitch’s video, titled “That’s What You’re Gonna Want,” clocks in at a half hour, and here’s what he had to say:

All the tour videos I’ve done are really for me and my friends to look back on in a couple years and go, “Oh yeah, THAT place!” or “That was the weird dude from the show, remember in the video he did… blah blah blah??”

So, no hard feelings to anyone who doesn’t finish it. Maybe take it in, in like 3 10-min parts? Up to you. I’m not your boss.
