President Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a joint conference Thursday afternoon following their meeting at the White House.
Trump invited Modi to Washington earlier this month after the two leaders spoke on the phone about expanding U.S.-India cooperation on a number of global issues.
A senior administration official told reporters that Thursday's conversation will focus on the trade and defense partnership between India and the U.S. The two are moving toward signing a new defense framework that would see India procure more equipment from the U.S., the official said.
Trump and Modi are also expected to discuss strengthening the Quad alliance, which consists of the U.S., India, Australia and Japan. India is slated to host the next Quad summit later this year.
Their remarks are expected to begin at 5:10 p.m. EST.
