Uwe Boll Wants To Keep “Dark Knight” Title

Filmmaker Uwe Boll recently wrapped production on his next feature, the vigilante-themed “The Dark Knight” starring Armie Hammer, Costas Mandylor, Amanda Plummer, James Russo and Ulrich Thomsen.

Despite the name, Boll is insistent that the film has nothing to do with Christopher Nolan’s 2008 Batman film of the same name, saying “our movie is very different from Chris Nolan’s movie, so there is no danger of confusion” in a previous press release.

Warner Bros. Pictures is allegedly upset enough that Boll has claimed in a podcast (via World of Reel) that the studio has issued a cease and desist over his intention to call the film that title with Boll saying no and that the “title must stick”:

“DC and Warner already contacted and said I can’t use the title. I understand that but I told them “Guys, remember ‘Rampage,’ the Rock movie? You used my title. The fact that they did that, and called me for permission, they could show gratefulness and say, listen it’s not a Batman movie and you can use the title.”

Boll directed a 2009 film called “Rampage,” while Warners released a Dwayne Johnson-led film of the same name in 2018. The catch is that the latter is based on an arcade video game of the same title from decades ago.

Of his “The Dark Knight,” Boll calls it a “very dark and violent movie” and one which tackles the current “landscape in Europe”. He also had some comments to say about superhero films:

Most of the DC and Marvel films suck. They’re too long and with endless CGI, and everything is fake and the stories suck. Especially Batman, how many Batman’s do we want to watch? They suck.

Hammer was previously slated to play Batman for director George Miller’s “Justice League” project back in the early 2000s before the project fell apart in development. The first photos for Boll’s “The Dark Knight” were released earlier this month by Variety.
