The Utah Hockey Club and the forward have agreed to a one-year extension, the team announced on Wednesday.

Alexander Kerfoot will be sticking around Salt Lake City for a little longer.
The Utah Hockey Club and the forward have agreed to a one-year extension, the team announced on Wednesday.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that the extension was for $3 million.
“Any time you have a chance to extend a player of Alex’s character and versatility in all situations, you seize that opportunity,” said Chris Armstrong, president of hockey operations for Utah Hockey Club, in a statement released by the team.
“Alex is a respected voice in our locker room, and he and his wife Marissa have already made a huge impact in our community through their initiatives for young women and girls.”
Kerfoot, 30, has played 61 games for Utah this season, logging 16 points (seven goals and nine assists) in 15:17 of average ice time. He leads all forwards on the roster for blocked shots (45) and takeaways (25) while ranking second in short-handed ice time per game (2:31). He’s also in the top 10 on the team for goals and points while sitting fifth in face-off wins (200).
The Vancouver native was originally drafted 150th overall in the fifth round of the 2012 draft by the New Jersey Devils. He’s since made 585 career appearances in the NHL for the Colorado Avalance, Arizona Coyotes, Toronto Maple Leafs and Utah. He’s racked up 280 points (94 goals, 186 assists) through his eight-year career.
Kerfoot has played in 406 consecutive games since November 2019 — the fourth-longest active streak in the NHL.
The Utah Hockey Club, with a newly-extended Kerfoot, return to action on Thursday as they visit the Detroit Red Wings.
