United Autosports has revealed its driver lineup for its new McLaren LMGT3 effort in the European Le Mans Series, as Wayne Boyd returns to the team after a one-year absence.
Boyd will share United’s No. 23 McLaren 720S GT3 Evo with fellow Briton Michael Birch and Australia’s Garnet Patterson for the six-round series, following the Anglo-American outfit’s expansion to the GT ranks with a solo entry.
McLaren factory driver Marvin Kirchhoefer, who was the sole driver listed against the No. 23 car when the full-season entry list was revealed, is not part of the lineup.
United CEO Richard Dean commented: “It is very exciting to see our new LMGT3 program in the European Le Mans Series coming together.
“We have learnt an incredible amount about the McLaren over the past 18 months, which means we are building on solid foundations for our ELMS LMGT3 debut.
“I think that Michael, Garnet and Wayne will make a fantastic team, and I look forward to seeing them in action together in Barcelona.”
Boyd makes his return to United after spending 2024 in the Michelin Le Mans Cup with Nielsen Racing, while also making a one-off ELMS LMP2 outing for Team Virage.
It marks the 34-year-old’s full season in GT cars, with last December’s Gulf 12 Hours, when he drove a Ferrari 296 GT3 for Dragon Racing, providing the Northern Irishman with his first taste of the discipline.
“I’m absolutely delighted to be back with United Autosports,” said Boyd. “Driving the McLaren for such a successful team in a high-level series is incredible.
“I firmly believe Michael, Garnet and I will be a super strong line up and we’ll be fighting for the championship. Thank you to the team for having me, I can’t wait to get going.”
Patterson is likewise no stranger to United, having previously raced for the team in the Michelin Le Mans Cup and in the Asian Le Mans Series, and more recently he appeared as part of the squad’s lineup for the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Bronze-rated Birch meanwhile makes the switch to the ELMS having raced mostly in historics up to now, including on the support bill of last month’s FIA World Endurance Championship opener in Qatar.
