UFC 314 weigh-in results: One fighter misses but main event official
One fighter missed weight Friday at the UFC 314 official weigh-in on the eve of Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes fighting for a vacant featherweight title.
UFC 314 headliners Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes both made championship weight Friday morning on the eve of their vacant featherweight title bout.
Both fighters stepped on the scale at an even 145 pounds to render the main event matchup official. Volkanovski is looking to become a two-time titleholder, while Lopes is coming in on a five-fight winning streak as he seeks his first championship in the UFC.

Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes compete for the vacant featherweight title and Michael Chandler faces Paddy Pimblett in a five-round co-main event. There are five featherweight contests scheduled for Saturday’s card at the Kaseya Center in Miami. All non-title competitors are given a one-pound allowance at weigh-ins, so the other featherweights competing could weigh as much as 146 pounds.
Longtime Bellator MMA champ Patricio “Pitbull” Freire came in at an even 145 ahead of his UFC debut against one-time interim champ Yair Rodriguez, who weighed 146. Freire noted when he was on the scale that he was on championship weight and is willing to step into the main event if anything were to happen to Volkanovski vs. Lopes.
Rodriguez was involved in a heated exchange on stage at Thursday’s pre-fight press conference, not with his opponent but instead with Lopes; there has been heat between their respective fight teams.
Bryce Mitchell and Jean Silva aren’t on the best of terms either. Tensions have been elevated in the buildup to this featherweight grudge match. Mitchell made weight on his initial attempt, but Silva was one pound over the non-title limit when he first stepped on the scale. The intense Brazilian, while standing on the scale, vowed he would make weight and knock Mitchell out on Saturday.
Silva was given another hour to cut the additional pound — after getting medical clearance from the Florida Athletic Commission — and he went from 147 down to 146 on his second attempt.
The preliminary card is headlined by featherweights Dan Ige and Sean Woodson, both of whom weighed 146 pounds, and has Darren Elkins vs. Julian Erosa.
Saturday’s co-main event is a five-round lightweight bout between Michael Chandler and Paddy Pimblett. Each man took advantage of their one-pound allowance and weighed 156 pounds.
Conor McGregor took to social media on Thursday and posted, “I am interested in the Chandler/Pimblett fight this weekend,” with an accompanying video of him hitting pads. In theory, the winner of Chandler vs. Pimblett would be a suitable opponent if and when McGregor ever does return to the UFC to fight.
McGregor and Chandler were scheduled to fight at UFC 303 last year before an injury to McGregor cancelled the matchup. Pimblett has drawn some comparisons to McGregor throughout his fighting career.

The lone fighter on the card to miss weight on Friday was women’s bantamweight Nora Cornolle. She ended up missing by 1.5 pounds ahead of her preliminary card opener against Hailey Cowan.
Cornolle initially weighed 138 pounds and only managed to shed another half pound after roughly an additional hour of cutting weight. She will forfeit 20 per cent of her purse to her opponent, and the bout will proceed at a catchweight.
