Toyota Raize and Agya recalled in Indonesia to fix brake booster issue – Perodua Ativa, Axia affected?

Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) is recalling the Toyota Raize and Toyota Agya models in Indonesia for a potential brake booster issue. It involves cars produced locally from June 2021 to July 2024, and TAM says that a total of 32,195 units are affected.

Cars that come back to the service centre will have their ECU checked and reprogrammed. The faulty programming meant that there’s a potential for the brake booster to not work at the optimal level. As its name suggests, the brake booster assists drivers in braking, and if it’s not working properly, more braking effort might be needed and braking distance could be longer.

TAM says that the ECU reprogramming job takes one hour and it will be free of charge. Specifically, affected cars have production dates from June 8, 2021 to July 16, 2024 for the Raize; and July 22, 2022 to July 29, 2024 for the Agya. Both roll out from Astra Daihatsu Motor’s Karawang plant in West Java.

The Toyota Raize (and the Daihatsu Rocky) is a twin of the Perodua Ativa, while the Toyota Agya and Daihatsu Ayla were developed together with the current-generation Perodua Axia. We’ve reached out to Perodua to enquire if its models are affected.
