Tom Brady reveals exact role in Shedeur Sanders Draft slide and what he told QB after Skip Bayless attack
Tom Brady tore into Skip Bayless after the former Undisputed host dragged him into the narrative surrounding Shedeur Sanders’ NFL Draft slide. Many predicted that the Colorado quarterback would follow in his dad Deion’s footsteps as a first-round pick. Brady is working behind the scenes for the Raiders But he ended up going to the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round — not even the first quarterback selected by his own team as Dillon Gabriel went in the third. Brady has been a long-time mentor of Shedeur thanks to his relationship with Deion and after the New England Patriots icon became a minority owner in the Las Vegas Raiders, Sin City was touted as an ideal home for the 23-year-old. After the first two rounds had been and gone, Bayless aimed an accusatory X post at the 47-year-old. “It is now pretty clear Tom Brady – who mentored Shedeur – told the Las Vegas Raiders NOT to take Shedeur. Duly noted,” he wrote. Brady was given the chance to offer his side of the story in a chat with Logan Paul and Mike Majlak on the Impaulsive podcast. “I wasn’t a part of any evaluation process,” the seven-time Super Bowl champ said before Majlak brought up Bayless’ comments. “I know,” he replied. “Well, everyone’s got — that’s the problem with media, everyone can just say whatever the f*** they want and get away with it. “It’s kind of unfortunate, because there actually used to be a lot of integrity in the media. “There is way less now because everyone actually needs crazy voices to get heard. It actually probably hurts a lot relationships which is not the goal of broadcasting.” There are few better role models for Shedeur than a quarterback who fell to the 199th pick and used the snub to fuel a 23-year career that entrenched himself as the greatest passer of all time. Shedeur and Deion are a joint package, which may be the problem for some teamsGetty The Browns eventually made a move in the fifth roundGetty Brady had some words of wisdom for Shedeur after his fall. “Nobody knows [why Sanders dropped so low in the Draft],” he added. “I actually texted Shedeur because I know him very well. I said, “Dude, whatever happens, wherever you go, that is your first day. Day two matters more than the Draft. I was 199.'” “Who could speak on that better than me? Use it as motivation, you are gonna get your chances, go take advantage of it. Use it as motivation, wherever you end up going it is about your performance — what you do when you get there. “What does it matter, other than an overhyped day where people are selling stories? “It’s an important day, it is fun but I have been there on day two when they need to learn a playbook and learn to be part of a locker room. “He’s got to show up every day. As a quarterback, you have to be a leader and I would say that to every quarterback I ever come across.” Brady was asked if he wanted to get into it with Bayless over the X post. “I don’t think I did [respond],” he added. “For the most part it goes out the next day anyway.” The Raiders traded for — and extended — Geno Smith over the offseason to fill a gap under center. North Dakota State quarterback Cam Miller also joined the QB room in the sixth round. General manager John Spytek told The Athletic that Brady is a big fan of Miller. “He liked the way he threw it, his technique, throwing from the ground up and his motion,” Spytek said. “And he thought he had the potential to improve.” Miller is a developmental prospect who will not carry anywhere near the same level of media attention as Shedeur. Whoever made the decision within the Raiders war room, it is likely that a low-key backup was the preferred option with Smith locked in as the starter.
