Thunderbolts* review embargo has lifted and the film has so far gained a Fresh score on the Rotten Tomatoes site. Reviews of course are still coming in and the score will fluctuate one way or another within time. So far though, the latest Marvel movie is sitting at a decent 88% with critics. [At time of writing.] Of course, it will take time for audience scores to arrive. Equally, the critic score could be effective by a slew of positive or negative critic reviews dropping.

For now let’s take a look at a few of the positive and negative reviews which the site are featuring.

Thunderbolts was a refreshing take on the superhero team movies, and it comprises of a bunch of antiheroes as they try to do good while dealing with their messed up past. The heart of the film is Florence Pugh, David Harbour and Lewis Pullman.”

Nerd Reactor

Thunderbolts* is a character-driven comic book film that lays the groundwork for what’s coming next in this phase of the MCU. Wonderfully acted and exploring dark themes, this group of misfits is not only relatable but also fantastic!”

The Latino Slant

Thunderbolts* doesn’t rush the action, but it does deliver the staples that superhero fans crave while respecting the need to create a bolder story than what the superhero genre has been delivering of late.”

San Jose Mercury News

This is only a small sample of many on the site.

Here are some that lean more negative, but as you’d guess with 88% fresh there are less of these to choose from.

“Clunky, unfunny and disjointed.”

NYC Movie Guru

“By embracing the joke of being jokes themselves, it all too often still becomes or stays a joke. Thunderbolts* goes to show that when you make something about cheap heroes, you get a cheap return.”

Film Obsessive

Here’s one that was a negative rating, but didn’t think the film was that bad.

“There is a lot riding on the success of Thunderbolts* and the film itself is not a total disaster. It has some funny moments, a few heartfelt ones, and a Terminator 2 homage that certainly will have audiences cheering.”
