This One Scene in ‘The Da Vinci Code’ Makes Every Real-Life Historian Facepalm
The Da Vinci Code's theory of Mary Magdalene being the real Holy Grail is laughable to academics, and stands as the movie's biggest flaw.

For sheer drama, it’s hard to beat The Da Vinci Code, which seemingly starts off with the small stakes of a murder investigation in which Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) is embroiled, before encompassing the entire Catholic Church in a conspiracy theory regarding the whereabouts of the Holy Grail. The film’s best moments are arguably those in which the revelations about the ways successive generations of ecclesiastics sought to cover up the truth are revealed. But for academics, one of them stands out among the rest – and for all the wrong reasons.
