This Disturbing Kickstarter-Funded Horror Started as a Film Within a Film

In 2012, Scott Schirmer was hailed as a true indie darling for his adaptation of Todd Rigney’s novel into the movie Found. A grim-dark character study of tween Marty, played by Gavin Brown, as he copes with the knowledge that his older brother is a serial killer, Found is a thoughtful, unnerving tale that plays with suspense and atmosphere. The gore is restrained, allowing the moments of body horror to really land when they do come. Three years later, inspired by the most brutal scene in the whole movie, Arthur Cullipher got thrifty and crowd-funded a feature-length version of Headless. An ode to all those cheapy 1970s slashers that were all about the blood and guts, Cullipher manages to embody the overwrought, almost whimsical violence in this gnarly splatter flick.
