There's More to Sauron's True Form Than the Lord of the Rings Movies Ever Show

Sauron is one of the greatest villains of all time, and yet, we never see a physical version of him in The Lord of the Rings, and J.R.R. Tolkien's books only allude to his true visage. In the films, Peter Jacksondepicts the dark lord as a lidless eye on fire, though it is debated whether Sauron is formless or not in the books. However, Gollum does claim to have seen the Dark Lord in the "The Black Gate is Closed" chapter while he was being held hostage at Barad-dûr, but we are still given no more description than that the Dark Lord only had four fingers, where Isildur had cut the One Ring from him. This secrecy has led many to question just what Sauron's true form is.
